Create an invoice
Make an invoice from an approved quote, or create one by hand with a customer, lines, tax and a due date.
Most invoices start from an approved quote, so they match exactly what the customer agreed to. You can also create one by hand, for a walk-in sale or work that was never quoted. Either way, the invoice starts as a Draft. Owners, admins and staff can create invoices.
From an approved quote
Open the approved quote and click Convert to invoice. The invoice gets the approved option and extras, the quote's tax rate and every deposit already paid. See Turn a quote into an invoice.
By hand
Open the form
In the menu, click Invoices, then New invoice. You can also click New invoice on a customer's page.

Choose the customer
Under Details, choose the Customer, and the ship-to address if the order ships.
Check the tax and due date
- Tax rate (%): leave it empty (Auto) to use your tax rules for the ship-to address, or type a rate. A tax-exempt customer gets no tax, and the form says so.
- Due date: leave it empty to use the customer's payment terms, or pick a date.
Add the lines
Under Line items, click Add line for each one and enter the Description, Qty and Unit price.
Add notes
Notes are printed on the invoice: payment instructions, a thank-you, your terms.
Create it
Click Create invoice.
Amounts can't be changed once the invoice is created. Check the lines and the tax first. To fix a mistake on an unpaid invoice, cancel it and make a new one.
If the customer is over their credit limit, the form warns you. You can still create the invoice.
Change an invoice
Click Edit on the invoice to change the due date, the paid date and the notes. The due date can also be changed in its panel on the invoice page.
