Refund a payment
Give money back to a customer, in full or in part, for an online payment through Stripe or a payment you recorded yourself.
Refund a payment when you owe the customer money back: an overcharged setup fee, a cancelled order, a misprint you won't reprint. Only owners and admins can refund payments.
Find the payment
Open the invoice and find the payment in its Payments panel.
Click Refund

Enter the amount and reason
Enter the Refund amount (up to what's left of the payment, tip included), a Reason such as "Customer overcharged for setup", and the Date refunded.
Refund it
Click the refund button, which shows the amount.
A refund of an online payment sends the money back to the customer's card or bank account through Stripe, and can't be undone.
What happens next
- Online payments: the refund goes to Stripe and shows as pending until Stripe confirms it, usually within seconds. The money comes out of your Stripe balance. Stripe keeps its processing fee on a refund.
- Payments you recorded (cash, check, bank transfer): the refund is recorded straight away. Give the money back yourself.
- A refund comes off the payment's amount first, then its tip.
- If the refund reopens the invoice's balance, the invoice moves back to Sent, or Overdue if it's past due.
Refunds made in your Stripe dashboard are recorded in SKUFlow too. The Payments page shows each payment as Refunded or Partly refunded, with a Refunded total.
