Customers

Add a customer

Add a company or a person you sell to, with their contact details, billing address and first ship-to address.

Add a customer before you quote them, or add one on the spot while you make a quote, invoice or request. Owners, admins and staff can add customers; members can only view them.

From the customer list

Open the form

In the menu, click Customers, then New customer.

Choose the customer type

Under Customer type, pick Commercial for a business, school or team (a Company name is required) or Residential for a person.

Enter the main contact

Under Main contact, type the person's First name and Last name. Under Phone and email, add as many numbers and emails as you need with Add phone and Add email. For each phone, set Text message consent to OK to text only if they agreed to texts.

Add the billing address

Under Billing address, enter where invoices are sent.

Choose the ship-to address

Under Ship-to address, pick Same as billing address (most customers), A different address (a warehouse, a school or an event venue) or No ship-to address yet.

Add a lead source and tags (optional)

Under Lead source and tags, choose where they heard about you and add tags such as VIP.

Create the customer

Click Create customer. The customer's page opens.

Open More options on the form for the status, payment terms, tax exemption, credit limit, communication preferences and notes. You can also set them later from the customer's page with Edit. See Payment terms, tax and credit limits.

While making a quote, invoice or request

Wherever you choose a customer, the picker has New customer. A short form asks for the essentials: a name or a company, a phone, an email and a ship-to address. Click Create customer and they're chosen straight away, so you can carry on with the quote. Add more details from their page later.

The same picker has New address to add another ship-to address for the chosen customer.

From a request

When someone new sends a request, converting it to a quote makes them a customer (as a Lead). If their email or phone matches an existing customer, the request shows This may be an existing customer with Use this customer. See Handle a request.
