Add text to a design

Put text on a placement: pick a font (built-in or your own), size, color, bold or italic, alignment, spacing and an arc.

Text sits on a placement beside the artwork: a team name, a number, a slogan, an event date. It is drawn with the real font everywhere: on the canvas, in the mockups, on the customer's proof and in the store pictures, so what you see is what prints.

Add text

Open the placement

In the design editor, under Placements, open the location (front, back, sleeve). Add one first if needed: see Place artwork on a product.

Click Add text

On the placement, click Add text. "Your text" appears in the middle of the print area and its settings open below the layer list.

Type the text

Type in Text. Press Enter for a new line (up to 12 lines). The box on the canvas follows the text's width as you type.

Choose the font and style

Pick a Font. The built-in fonts are Sans, Serif, Typewriter, Athletic, Block, Script, Marker and Collegiate; your own fonts are listed first (see Upload your own fonts). Bold and Italic show when the font has those styles.

Size, color and alignment

  • Height (in): how tall the text prints. You can also drag the corner on the canvas.
  • Color: click one of the swatches (the colors already on this placement), pick any color, or type a code such as #1d4ed8.
  • Align left, Center or Align right for text on several lines.
  • Letter spacing (%) spreads the letters (negative tightens them); Line height sets the space between lines.

Curve it (optional)

For text on one line, drag Curve towards Upward for an arch, like a team name over a logo, or towards Downward for a smile. 100 bends it into a half circle.

Place it and save

Drag the text to move it, its corner to resize, and the round handle to rotate, as with artwork. Use Bring forward and Send back to stack it with the art, and Remove text to take it off. Click Save, then Render mockups.

How text is priced

  • Screen print and pad print: each text color that isn't already one of the artwork's colors adds an ink color. The placement shows it, for example "Text adds 1 ink color (not in the artwork): priced with 3." Reuse one of the swatches to keep the ink count down.
  • Embroidery: text adds an estimated stitch count from its size (about 1,000 stitches per square inch). Confirm the real count when the design is digitized.
  • Other methods price by print size, which includes the text.

If a font can't draw a character (for example an accented letter it lacks), the editor says so; that character prints in the standard sans.
