Business units

Map business units to your accounting

Send each unit's invoices to QuickBooks with its own class and location, or to Xero with its own tracking option.

If you sync to QuickBooks Online or Xero, each unit can tag its invoices, so your bookkeeper can report by division there too. Connect your accounting system first: see Integrations.

Edit the unit

In Settings → Business units, open the unit's Actions menu and click Edit.

Choose the mapping

Under Accounting:

  • QuickBooks: choose a QuickBooks class and, if you use them, a QuickBooks location.
  • Xero: choose a Xero tracking category and its Tracking option.

Save

Click Save changes. Invoices of this unit sent from now on carry the mapping, and so do refunds on them.

  • In QuickBooks, the class goes on every line, and the location on the invoice. Line classes need QuickBooks' "Track classes" setting set to one class per row.
  • In Xero, the unit's tracking option replaces the default tracking option on its invoices and credit notes.
  • Invoices with no unit, or a unit with no mapping, are sent as before.

If QuickBooks or Xero refuses a class, location or option that no longer exists, the invoice shows in the sync log as failed. Fix the unit's mapping, then click Push again. See Check sync status.
